Originally home to the venerable Class 303, or "blue trains", the current iteration of the route showcases a wide variety of stock, including many specials - often steam hauled - heading for the West Highland Line.West of Glasgow, the line splits just west of Partick, with one route taking a northerly course through the Glasgow suburbs of Anniesland and Knightswood, before merging with the southerly line in the Clydebank district of Dalmuir. The southerly course passes through the traditional industrial heartland of the Clyde Valley.
